In past few years, EU speeded up to wage war against Chinese steel products as they maintained fighting against China's decision to collect AD tariff on part steel pipe imported from Japan and Europe. Mr Wu Jiahuang senior consultant from China Society for World Trade Organization Studies told reporter that Chinese steel exports have been seemingly performing well as imports are on the decrease while exports present a rapid growth. Moreover, the sort of anti-dumping and countervailing cases would pop out in future given the situation in China.
The latest trade report published by European Commission show that all of the four anti dumping and countervailing probes conducted by the body in January to July 2013 are against Chinese merchandise, including seamless pipe. Meanwhile, 5 out of seven verdicts to collect certain tariff came after steel products imported from China, including steel products and kitchen utensils.
It is worth noting that international trade protections are growing intensified amid slow recovery in global economy since 2013. Till now, EU, America, Australia, Canada and more have initiated anti dumping and countervailing inspection into our steel products, especially for some ASEAN countries that reacted strongly against Chinese steel products. Unluckily, the increasing trade frictions involved with China puts more hurdles to our exports.
Mr Wu noted that steel industry plays a fundamental role in a nation's industrial development, but when the industrial development turns mature in advanced countries, excessive capacity stands out and antidumping case would inevitably emerge to be part of the market warfare. Considering that AD investigations suffered by China merely account for less than 0.5 percent in total foreign trade volume, it's would be wise for us to regard them as normal trade means and be fully prepared for more possible cases ahead instead of making a fuss.
